The Konami Group is a company that makes (arcade) video games (machines) and entertainment. With a long history ranging back to the arcade era they currently still make and hold a reputation for excellent video games. The company name is based on the 3 original founders named Kagemasa Kozuki, Yoshinobu Nakama, and Tatsuo Miyasako. The company was founded in 1969 and was originally a jokebox rental company. In 1978 they issued their first coin operated video game arcade machine and soon exported this to the United States. In the early 1980’s they started off getting quite some succes on their video games. The more famous games were Frogger, Scramble, Super Cobra, Time Pilot, Roc’n Rope, Track & Field, Yie and Ar Kung-Fu. In 1982 they also started publishing their games on the Atari 2600. Around 1985 a new generation games from Konami hit the arcades that became instant classics: Gradius, Castlevania, Twin Bee, Contra and Metal Gear. In addition one of their best games back then was the licenced games Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles which was their highest grossing arcade game.
