Description:
Taiwanese clone or knockoff (with slight variations so as not to infringe on trademark) of the Jaleco Pony Mark IV. Comparison of the two machines shows differences in CP shape speaker shape coin door size logo header shape and size and also a differently moulded top to the machines. Available with a screw on base that base adds 215mm to the height allowing for stand up play.

Excellent compromise between more expensive candy and inexpensive products. Very good quality rigid plastic, though lightweight. Detachable base. Wide and durable iron dashboard. The poop is literally indestructible except on the side of the dashboard and in the hatches. It is often found without hatches. Tends to yellow, but well restored returns to like new. The stickers tend to fade. Mounts 28" and 29" monitors, for use with special brackets (hard to find nowadays). Easy to assemble, open and clean. Audio amplifier is often present. Rational electrical system, although it mounts some sort of electrical control unit with multi-socket and fuse as standard, which complicates wiring. An excellent cabin cruiser.

Don't be cheap, buy the real deal (Jaleco Pony Mark IV). The OK Baby is worse in any aspect. Poor quality combo, mushy buttons and imprecise joysticks, terrible PSU with leaky capacitors, thinner gauge harness, etc.

The platonic ideal of a project cab. Because this unit is made almost entirely of ABS plastic, you will often find it in an aggressively yellowed state, but that’s just aging plastic not nicotine. You can either Retrobrite this, or add a coat of resurface and add a coat of paint or Vinyl Dye. The ABS also means that the cabinet is both strong and surprisingly light when the monitor is removed. As noted above, the parts included are often a grab bag but this is fine as it’s not terribly expensive to throw some Sanwas and a better power supply like a MeanWell.
I have also read that its status as a knockoff is disputed, it seems like a design unto itself. I believe this cab is the original basis for the Tecmo Kyotaro Excellent, which makes sense because they appear to be identical, but I’ve not confirmed this or ever seen an Excellent.
